The K-9 officer is very often confronted to hostile environments like deep forests, rivers or abandoned and dark buildings, ... He must be able to reach his equipment (radio, light, handcuffs, pepper spray, gloves, cellular phone, ...) very quick, even in unconfortable situations. Never forget that he very ofently has already one hand holding the lead...

That is the reason why each member of the K-9 Unit dispose to a sharp equipment, adapted to K-9 missions, pretty similar to the SWAT team.

Every K-9 officer has a tactical vest on which he can fix his personal equipment the way he likes it. Usually he will fix police radio, handcuffs, pepper spray, tactical stick, cellular phone, pager, safety gloves and second magazine on the vest. Main avantages of working with the vest are discretion (radio), and free-hands working.
