These dogs must be very calm, applied, posed and obeying. A wrong reaction could involve a disaster.

In the State of Vaud, international sommet and great meetings are often organized. A great number of Presidents and VIP are invited here. To ensure their safety, the K9 specialized in the detection of explosive substances are engaged for checking the places of meetings (hotel room, rooms of conferences, vehicles and others). These searches are operated in collaboration with the GSD (Bombs Squad of the State Police).

But the dogs are also engaged to do preventive searches on scene of music-star shows, important sporting meetings or some other great meetings and demonstrations. Usually, these events are announced and searches can be planned.

However, when unexpected events occured, K-9 are transported to search scenes by helicopter to be able to operate as soon as possible for safety. These searches are also operated with the GSD (Bombs Squad of the State Police).

But the explosives detection dogs also work in the emergency. We have frequently calls for bomb alarm or suspect parcels. In this type of mission, their work is determining. They have a great responsability on their shoulders. For example, when a shopping center was evacuated following a bomb alarm, the decision to re open the mall is based on the K-9 handler advice. They don't have the right to error!

Finally, explosives detection dogs could be engaged to find arms or ammunition on crime scene.

Since 2004, explosives detection dogs are conditionned thru the SOKKS method.
